You! Yes, you! EAC Toronto has the perfect seminar to meet your needs. Wendy Thomas, in EAC’s Coffee Shop “Editing in Changing Times,” will lead a discussion on the changing responsibilities and expectations of an “editor” today. Are you being asked to do project management rather than just copy edit and proofread? Do you find that you need new software to do your job (e.g., Adobe Acrobat to annotate PDFs)? Do you spend increasing amounts of time promoting yourself online (e.g., through a website or LinkedIn)—and does that actually bring in business? Or, if you hire editors, do you rely on online sources?
While Wendy will introduce and moderate the topics, you, the participants, will determine the direction of the discussion by bringing up the issues, questions, and problems you face every day in your work.
This informal workshop, which participants have consistently praised, is for individuals who already have a good deal of experience working as editors, in house or freelance. It gives mid-career editors a chance to expand their knowledge by interacting with the facilitator and others who are at a similar point in their careers. The discussion will take place in a casual setting meant to encourage a free exchange of ideas.
Please note: This seminar is not suitable for those looking for introductory courses in editing or the publishing process.
| After nearly 15 years in-house working in production and editorial positions, Wendy Thomas began freelancing in the late 80s. Since then, she has copyedited, proofread, indexed, and written for books and magazines, as well as having done page makeup. She also currently is the freelance managing editing for Thomas Allen Publishers. |
