The Editors' Association of Canada/Association canadienne des réviseurs (EAC) has signed an agreement with the Translation Bureau of Public Works and Government Services (PWGSC) to provide material for the Language Portal of Canada.

EAC promotes high standards of professional editing as a key part of producing documents that communicate effectively. EAC, which has over 1,600 members from across the country, is incorporated federally as a bilingual not-for-profit membership association with the following objectives:

• to set standards for the editing profession
• to organize professional development opportunities for editors
• to help editors find work, and secure fair pay and good working conditions
• to  keep members informed about editing issues and developments, and to offer networking opportunities
• to raise awareness of the important role of editors and editing in Canadian publishing

To achieve these objectives, EAC provides a wide range of programs and services to its members and to clients and the public. Some of the major ones are:

• a landmark professional certification program for editors;
• the Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence, the Claudette Upton Scholarship and a Volunteer of the Year award;
• publication of Professional Editorial Standards, a pivotal document on editing in the English language and Principes directeurs en révision professionnelle, which serves the francophone editing community;
• authoring Editing Canadian English, an authoritative and useful style guide published by McClelland & Stewart (2000);
• professional development programs (seminars and courses) for editors;
• an annual conference;
• Active Voice/Voix active, a national newsletter published three times a year; and
• job services, such as the Online Directory of Editors, a national job board and a government contract collective.

This partnership will help showcase EAC's programs and services, which not only meet the needs of members but also assist and support the many clients who use the services of editors. EAC members are hired by and/or provide services to numerous agencies in Canada and elsewhere that produce written communications, such as book publishers, newspapers and magazines, business, government, arts and entertainment agencies, not-for-profit groups, and the education, health care, science and technology sectors.
