General meeting information

Location
Women’s Art Association of Canada
23 Prince Arthur Avenue (northwest of Bloor Street and Avenue Road)
The nearest subway station is St. George (Bedford exit). Metered parking is sometimes available on neighbourhood streets, and there are parking lots nearby.

Admission
EAC members and students free; non-members $10.
Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary course or program and should show proof of enrolment at the meeting.

An Invitation to Dinner
Editors (and guests) are invited to a pre-meeting dinner on the second floor of The Bedford Academy, 36 Prince Arthur Avenue, at 6:00 pm – or a little earlier if you can make it.

Question and Answer Session
From 7 to 7:30 pm a Toronto branch member is available to meet with new EAC members, or people interested in becoming EAC members, to answer questions about EAC and about the profession of editing.

Business Session
A business session is held three times a year – in October, February, and May – to give members a formal update on branch and national business and to discuss and vote on matters of importance. The branch secretary records the minutes of the business session; the minutes are distributed to the membership after the meeting. If you have a matter that you would like discussed at the next business session, contact the branch chair at toronto_br_chair@editors.ca.

Information Session
At most meetings, a brief information session is held in place of a business session. Members of the executive provide updates about the Toronto branch’s news, events, and activities. Members and guests are invited to ask questions and make suggestions. The updates are emailed to all members after the meeting.

Program
Editing graphic novels, self-publishing, running a home office, writing effective queries – these are just some of the topics covered during past programs. If you would like to suggest a speaker or topic for a future program, please contact the program chair at toronto_br_program_chair@editors.ca.

Donation to Charity
The Toronto branch pools the funds that would otherwise have been used to purchase a token thank-you gift for program presenters and donates it to a charitable organization. In 2012, the donation will go to the Toronto Public Library Foundation. The cheque in honour of our program presenters will be given to the Toronto Public Library Foundation at the Toronto branch’s year-end party on June 25.

Other organizations we have supported:
2011 – Sister Writes
2010 – Learning Disabilities Association of Toronto District
2009 – Children’s Book Bank
2008 – Frontier College
2007 – PEN Canada
