Learn the basics of back-of-the-book indexing and be introduced to the electronic world of information management. Indexing is a specialized skill now in demand by book and Internet publishers. Learn about the different kinds of indexes and their parts, the mechanics of indexing and what indexing software can and cannot do, what you're going to need to know to index in various areas and disciplines, and how to edit an index. Compiling a useful and elegant index requires, first, close and careful reading, and then an unexpected combination of craft, good judgment, determination, attention to detail and an eye for the big picture, informed intuition, a busy mind that sees connections, and the ability to budget time. If you think this describes you, then add to your editing skills by taking this seminar.
