1. ONLINE DIRECTORY OF EDITORS: Early-bird entry fee deadline fast approaching
This summer you’ll see a new version of the Online Directory of Editors, the official advertising directory of association members for use by clients, employers and colleagues. Earlier this month, EAC informed members that payment of an annual online directory entry fee is required effective May 1, 2008. This fee is tax-deductible as a business expense. In this transitional year, members will enjoy two months’ listing free (May and June 2008) with payment for a one-year listing (July 2008 to June 2009).
Members can take advantage of a special early-bird entry fee of $65 plus GST—but only until May 31. The regular entry fee, which is payable by June 30, is $75 plus GST (a prorated entry fee applies for new entries between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009). You can pay online or by mail or fax. Whatever you do, don’t delay. Unpaid listings will be removed from the directory beginning July 1.

2. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: 2,008 in 2008
Help EAC’s membership increase from 1,700 to 2,008 in 2008! We know that editors across Canada are missing out on the benefits of our great organization. Refer a new EAC member on or before May 31, and you’ll earn a reward of up to $25 for each new recruit.

3. OOPS AWARDS: Submit your entries by May 25

4. CONFERENCE 2008: Enlightenment, entertainment and more
Conference 2008: Editing in the Global Village is shaping up to be a festive affair. This year’s opening reception will feature Edmonton Festival City’s colourful rovers and live music courtesy of Le Fuzz. This Edmonton band promises to take conference delegates on a magnificent world journey from the jungles of Central America, to the deserts of Northern Mexico, onto the plains of old Russia, through timeless streets of vieux Paris, then home to Alberta on the Voyageur route.
EAC is happy to report that registration for Conference 2008: Editing in the Global Village is exceeding expectations. Due to overwhelming demand, the Prairie Provinces branch has added a second session of Clayton Wright’s pre-conference workshop, Instructional Design for Editors, on Thursday, June 5. The popular Senior Editors’ Roundtable is booked, but limited space remains for the banquet and the Editors’ Café. Registration closes on June 2 so don’t delay. Join us in Edmonton for Conference 2008.
