Professional Editing and Proofreading by Charlotte
My editing skills are put to the test daily in my job as an editor with the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly Service - Parliamentary Publications. In this role, I transcribe and edit parliamentary debates from the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly, which are then published online and in print form in Hansard for the members and public to review.
Along with working at Hansard, I am the owner of an editorial services company where I work as a professional, independent editor. I understand business management and follow proper business practices with all my clients. I am able to manage my time successfully while respecting my client's documents and schedules. My main objective in editing is to make my client's material usable, efficient, and credible because I strongly believe that "when something can be read without effort, great effort has gone into its writing." - Anonymous
I am currently studying and working towards achieving my certificate in copy editing through Simon Fraser University. I recently completed my last course for this certificate and will be submitting my final editing project in the spring of 2017. While studying and working with the Legislative Assembly, I have also been doing freelance editing with a Saskatchewan fiction writer, as well as editing for various university students who are working towards completing their degrees. I work with many types of genres including fiction, non-fiction, dissertations, and professional material.
My passion is editing, and I want my clients to feel as though their work is special. They have put much time and energy into their creations, and they are important. This is why I believe in Mark Twain's quote, "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug."
