NATIONAL OFFICE

John Yip-Chuck

John Yip-Chuck
Executive Director

I first joined Editors Canada as a member in the late 1990s, early in my editorial career. In my first few years, I took nearly every seminar offered by the Toronto branch, led by industry leaders such as Greg Ioannou, Rosemary Shipton, Heather Ebbs, Kathryn Dean and many other excellent editors. I made sure to volunteer to sit at the registration desk of many of these seminars, which was a great way to meet everyone. I had a rare in-house entry-level editing job at the legal publishing house CCH Canadian (now part of Wolters Kluwer), transitioned into educational publishing working for Pearson Education, and eventually became the Science Publisher at Nelson Education, where I was responsible for publishing K-12 science learning resources across Canada.

In my 20+ years in publishing, I gained a lot of varied experience as an editor, writer, program manager, managing editor and publisher. I am excited about bringing my recent business experience to the association to help bring more services to the membership and to help grow the awareness of the association among businesses and organizations that hire editors.

I graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA specialist degree in the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, and from the Ryerson University Publishing Program where I was the humble recipient of the Marsh Jeanneret Memorial Award for Publishing. I am a dog person and an avid sports fan, and I look forward to meeting as many of our members as I can at upcoming Editors Canada events.

Michelle Ou
Senior Communications Manager
I joined the national office staff in 2005 after copywriting, editing and website development gigs in marketing, finance, health, sports and music. As Editors Canada's communications manager, I develop national marketing strategies to raise the profile of the editing profession, and for member acquisition and retention. I'm also the main voice behind Editors Canada's national social media presence, tweeting links to the articles you might find interesting and the jokes that will definitely make you groan. When I'm not donning the Editors Canada sandwich board, I'm supporting independent, underground music and can be found at concerts in Toronto and abroad.

Caitlin Stewart
Training and Development Coordinator
I joined the office as a part-time conference coordinator to help with the 2015 international conference in Toronto, and I became full-time member of the team in 2016. My responsibilities include coordinating the annual conference and our new webinars program, and supporting our publications committee. Before joining Editors Canada, I worked for several years in a book store and as a freelance editor.

LOCAL BRANCHES AND TWIGS

Editors British Columbia
Dee Noble
Branch Coordinator
A Vancouver-based freelance technical writer, copy editor, proofreader and researcher, I enjoy working with all forms of non-fiction. And being active in Editors Canada affords me the pleasant company of like-minded professionals. What else do I do for fun? Well, leisure time is limited as I'm also a library technician, but walking, reading, bird watching, and trying out new recipes on family and friends are high on my list of preferred pastimes.

Editors Quebec/Atlantic Canada
Karen Schell
Branch Administrator
I have been the branch administrator for the Quebec/Atlantic Canada branch (QAC) of Editors Canada since 2003. It has been a rewarding experience watching and helping the wonderful volunteers and executive members develop branch activities and services! I am not an editor so when I am not doing my part-time job with QAC, I work at the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre as the swim club administrator, swimming instructor, receptionist and aquatic trainer. Cycling, swimming competitively, running, photography and three nearly grown children keep me busy during my free time.
