Call for Nominations 2009–10

Nominations are invited for the national executive council and national committee chairs.

Recommended deadline: April 24, 2009.

1. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The national executive council provides leadership for the association, focusing on strategic planning and policy development. National committees carry out much of the association's work at the national level and advise the national executive council.

By getting involved, you can

  • work with other editors from across the country
  • raise the profile of your colleagues and your profession
  • develop and apply professional skills in an area of special interest
  • make valuable professional contacts
  • enhance your resumé and portfolio
  • have fun!

2. WHAT'S AVAILABLE?

Elected positions on the national executive council, elected positions chairing some national committees and appointed positions chairing other national committees.

ELECTED POSITIONS: Executive Council
The national executive council consists of six branch representatives (one from each branch, elected at the branch level), the past president and six positions elected by the voting members at the AGM. Only voting members in good standing may stand for these positions.

Members of the executive council normally serve two one-year terms. The following list shows the nominations received to date and indicates with an asterisk the incumbents who will run for re-election for a second term.

The national executive council meets four times a year. Travel and accommodation expenses for these meetings are reimbursed.

Committees
Committees most often work by email and telephone conference call or through in-person meetings when members reside in the same area. Committee chairs normally serve two one-year terms. Elected positions are selected by voting members at the AGM. Appointed positions are ratified by the national executive council.

3. FOR MORE INFORMATION

The EAC national executive council provides leadership for the association. It focuses on strategic planning and policy rather than administrative operations.

The role of EAC national committees is to do the work of the association at the national level and to advise the national executive council on policy and opinion growing out of that work. The national executive council, with input from the membership, defines the association's goals; the committees, supported and coordinated by the paid staff of the national office, work to achieve those goals.

Nominations for council or committee chair positions must be submitted to the association past president, Maureen Nicholson, at nominations@editors.ca. All eligible nominations received will be forwarded to the Nominating Committee.

The recommended deadline for nominations is Friday, April 24, 2009.

Nominations may be received at any time before votes are cast at the AGM on June 6, 2009.
