The Gold Standard of Editing

Registration is now open for the 2012 EAC Certification tests in Proofreading and Structural Editing.

By passing the 2012 certification tests, you will be recognized as a Certified Proofreader or Certified Structural Editor.

If you're pursuing EAC's full certification of Certified Professional Editor, this may be the year to complete your CPE designation.

Test Date

Saturday, November 17, 2012

  • Proofreading (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
  • Structural Editing (2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.)

The Copy Editing test and the Stylistic Editing test will be offered again in 2013.

Test Locations

The following test locations are planned, based on demand: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.

EAC Certification Credential Maintenance

Editors who pass the November 2012 tests will be required to maintain their credentials. Credential maintenance involves earning professional development points and paying a small annual administration fee. Credential maintenance adds value to your credentials and to the EAC certification program by 

  • assuring employers and clients that EAC-certified editors are keeping up-to-date editing skills and knowledge
  • giving you an easy way to track and support your skills and knowledge through your professional development
  • encouraging certified editors to contribute to the editing community by sharing knowledge and skills
