We're less than a week away from the registration deadline for Editing Goes Global! Haven't registered yet? Don't delay any longer. Sunday, May 31 is the last day to register for EAC's first international conference of editors.
Editing Goes Global takes place from June 12 to 14 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Join the global editing and writing community as we hear speakers from the US, the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Canada, and connect with communication professionals from around the world during this unparalleled weekend of international networking, learning and fun.
Meet presenter Sara Peacock
Sara Peacock is an academic editor of nearly 25 years’ standing, and has served as the Chair of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders since 2013. She is based in Cardiff, Wales.
Why are you coming to this conference?
Over the last few years I have been part of the fast-growing international community of editors on Facebook. When I was offered the opportunity to come to Toronto to meet some of these interesting and experienced editors in person, as well as continue some of the fascinating conversations on a face-to-face basis, I leapt at the chance.
What do you hope to experience while there?
I haven't yet chosen which sessions I would like to attend, mainly because the choice is so rich. As well as hoping to learn a lot for myself, I'm looking forward to bringing a British perspective to the proceedings. I have heard many great things about Toronto, so if I get the chance to see some of the city that will be a bonus.
What do you hope to take home with you after the conference?
I hope I will be able to take back ideas from EAC and other international organizations that will help us in the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) continue to improve the services we provide for our members.
New to the conference this year: Speed networking
Speed networking gives you the chance to meet six other editors in one hour (from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday). It’s perfect even for introverted editors, as there’s no time for small talk. In a structured rotation, you’ll get to chat with other editors, one-on-one, in focused seven-minute meetings. (The handout we’ll send you in advance will help you plan what to say.)
If you'd like to sign up, send an email to Elizabeth Macfie with "Speed Networking" in the subject line. The sign-up deadline is Friday, May 29.
Need some advice? Sign up for speed mentoring, a 15-minute one-on-one consultation with some of EAC's most highly regarded editors (Sunday from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.).
This year we have more speed mentors than ever before. To see the list and to register, visit the conference website.
Thursday Night Kick-Off Dinner
Catch up with old friends and meet new ones the night before the conference starts! Join us at Il Fornello (214 King St. W) at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and drinks. Gluten-free options are available, and diners will receive separate bills.
If you're planning to attend, please RSVP to Caitlin Stewart with "Thursday Dinner" in the subject line by Friday, May 29.
Registration closes Sunday
Registration for the conference is still open, but only until this Sunday, May 31.
One-day, two-day, three-day and student options are available—as are discounted rates for EAC members and affiliates.
