An EAC-Certified Copy Editor and Proofreader, I edit, proofread, and index cookbooks, art books, business books, memoirs, corporate histories, scholarly texts, and other non-fiction works. My freelance clients include publishers, self-publishing authors, businesses, art galleries, and universities.
As a writer, I have published memoirs, corporate histories, and magazine articles. I am also an editing instructor for SFU and a business-writing instructor for corporate clients.
I hold an Editing Certificate from SFU and a BComm. My project management and presentation skills—gained through nine years as a former business consultant—bring extra value to any project.
Projects showing the range of my experience include:
Traffic: Conceptual Art in Canada 1965-1980 (Vancouver Art Gallery and Douglas & McIntyre, 2012): I copy edited and proofread the English volume of this complex 175-page book that includes essays by multiple authors, a detailed chronology, reference notes, a detailed list of art works, and captions for over 200 images. This is one of over two dozen publications or exhibitions I have worked on for VAG.
Everyday Kitchen for Kids (by Jennifer Low, Whitecap Books, 2012): I co-edited this collection of creative, easy-to-make recipes for children. This is one of over a dozen cookbooks I have edited, proofread, or indexed.
Mulligan’s Stew: My Life . . . So Far (by Terry David Mulligan with Glen Schaefer, Heritage House, 2011): As structural and copy editor for this memoir by DJ, VJ, actor, and broadcast journalist Terry David Mulligan, I got a backstage view of the makings of a Canadian icon. This is one of over a dozen memoir or history books I have edited, written, or indexed.
Business and technical proposal for global transportation company (2011): The name of the client is confidential, but in this project I instilled consistency, clarity, and a professional, active writing style in a 160,000-word bid to construct and manage a light-rail transportation system. This is a particularly complex example of the dozens of business publications I have edited or written as a freelancer or a business consultant.
Sustainable Supply Chain Logistics Guide (Metro Vancouver, 2006): I researched and wrote* this 53-page corporate guide to implementing more environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable transportation and warehousing practices. (* as an employee of MNP)
