Reliable. Veracious. Au courant. Unfailingly courteous. Who would not want to work with such an paragon?!
I am a former acquisitions editor and librarian, currently principal of Second Hand Knowledge, where:
Understanding the world of information, and librarians in particular, is our business, our passion, and our calling. We know as much as anyone, and more than most, about the subject area, its authors, its field of practice, and the nature of its market. And what we don't know, we're poised to find out, fast!
Give me a call! It will cost you a few moments of time, but may gain you an unexpected advantage.
I was an acquisitions editor for textbooks and scholarly/professional monographs for over ten years, at both Libraries Unlimited and Scarecrow Press. I also worked for several years as children's book buyer for the National Book Centre (now National Library Service).
A graduate of the University of Toronto's Faculty of Library Science, I have been a paraprofessional at the Chatham Public Library, a reference librarian at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and the University of Victoria (British Columbia), and an adult services librarian at the Toronto Public Library.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley's doctoral program, I held a faculty position at the Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto, where my research interests ranged from efficiency measurement to cognitive authority. While at FIS, I served as founding publisher of The Looking Glass, the first children’s literature e-journal, created an online community known as InfoMOO, and served as founding executive director of the Toronto Centre for the Study of Children’s Literature where, among other projects, I initiated an oral history of TPL children’s librarians.
