Profile

My cinema studies degree is from the University of Toronto. Like film, words create moving images as we read, or write, and stories are best enhanced when the editing process is seamless as it tracks through the narrative.

Words--still the best bartering agents we have to attract, connect with, and hold the interest and hearts of our intended audience.

My work, highlighting stylistic/line, structural/substantive, and copy editing for a clear, effortless ease of reading, includes:

Fiction and its subgenres: novels, short stories, children's stories, fantasy/science-fiction, mystery, historical; commercial women's fiction.

Nonfiction including memoir, family history, biography, self-help, motivational subjects; creative nonfiction.

Manuscript (including plays and screenplays) reading for evaluation;

Essays, articles;

Newsletters;

Websites;

Personal/professional profiles;

Business reports;

Copywriting;

Rewriting.

Editing and writing in my background began and grew within arts, academic, legal, and business environments, all of which offer an understanding of different professional and personal settings and their respective writing styles.

“I try to leave out the parts that people skip.” ~ Elmore Leonard

As an editor and writer, I’m in the business of words as currency and understand the needs required to balance commerce and creativity. I appreciate and value writing as an intuitive skill, a creation of mind and heart.

The right words can change shades of meaning, the same way music in film steers emotions. The more capable we are of using the richness and subtleties of language, the better we connect, which is pretty much the whole point of writing.

"I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions." ~
James A. Michener

I continue my professional development through the Writing and Publishing Program at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, as well as EAC workshops, research, and reading.

I see writing as the liveliest and most personally engaging of the arts, holding the power to make us feel, think, and surrender to the heart of the story or message.

Final Writes is committed to helping authors, published and as yet unpublished, continue to define their unique voice and style.

Remember: "As a writer, words are your paint. Use all the colours." - Rhys Alexander
