Profile

I am a professional editor with over 25 years of experience editing books, with a specialty in fiction both for adults and children. I have edited hundreds of mysteries and crime fiction for both adults and children. I'm specialist as well in junior and young adult fiction. I am very experienced in substantive and structural editing as well as proofreading and copyediting of manuscripts.

Because of my many years in the publishing world in Canada, I am able to assist you to reach your goal. I can give general advice and practical suggestions to those looking to self-publish or to approach established publishers with the view to having your book published by a Canadian publishing house.

I am fluent in French and German, and  although I am not interested in translating, I will proof short texts for grammar and spelling in both languages.

With more than 25 years of editing experience, working with authors from all over the country, I feel I can help you prepare your manuscript for publication. Please consult me for my rates.

My credentials include the fact that I am the former publisher/owner of Napoleon & Company, a Toronto-based house which operated for twenty-two years publishing Canadian trade books. Napoleon, under numerous imprints, published children’s books, fiction and non-fiction, picture books,  novels, biography, and history, We also published adult fiction, literature and popular fiction. Our mystery and crime fiction, RendezVous Crime, was one of our strongest imprints and one of the first imprints dedicated to crime fiction in Canada. Our authors were nominated for and won many Arthur Ellis Awards over the years.

As well, our children’s fiction was nominated for and won many awards such as the Canadian Library Association Best Young Adult fiction, the Silver Birch and the Red Maple awards for children sponsored by the Ontario Library Association, the Hackmatack award for schools in the Martimes, the SYRCA list for Saskatchewan school children, and many others too numerous to list. Many of our books were listed in the Best Book catalogue produced by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre.
