Profile

With strong organizational abilities, a meticulous eye for detail and excellent proofreading skills, my favourite editorial achievement is making writers/authors sound better than they ever thought possible. (I once edited a book written by a man who claimed he had "never read a book.") Foundational to my editorial practice is a deep respect for the power of words, whether to convey information, to educate or inform, to encourage process and personal growth or to invite readers into a compelling fictional world. Paramount considerations include the intended audience, the objectives of the work and maintaining the author's voice.

Clients include: public/private educational institutions; provincial/municipal governments; national non-profit organizations; magazine/book publishers; media consultants; corporate marketing firms; private individuals.

Projects include: government publications; promotional/conference materials; technical brochures; event scripts; military history/biography; master's/doctoral theses (with strong expertise in APA (American Psychological Association) and MLA (Modern Language Association) styles); books (poetry, Alzheimer's disease, juvenile & speculative fiction, memoirs, creative non-fiction, cookbooks).

I hold professional and/or voting memberships in the Editors' Association of Canada, the Professional Writers Association of Canada, the Writers Guild of Alberta and the Get Publishing Communications Society.

I'm also an award winning, published poet and a performing member of the Edmonton Stroll of Poets Society. My first book of poetry (working title: Voice Lessons) is to be published in 2013 by Frontenac House, as one of four books in their highly regarded Quartet series.
