Editors' Association of Canada

Elizabeth d'Anjou

Profile

I never planned to be an editor when I grew up–-who wants to go into the same profession as her mom? Yet somehow here I am, not only a freelance editor with over twenty years of experience (including two years in house), but an editing instructor as well. And loving it.

My special strengths include finding and fixing structural problems, translating jargon into accessible prose, developing lively online educational materials, copy-editing textbooks and ancillaries with precision and flair, and writing short informational pieces to order (profiles, sidebars, "vignettes," etc.).

Author communication is another strength; I've converted many a skeptical author to a deep appreciation for the editorial process.

A veteran instructor in Ryerson's Publishing Certificate Programme (and  author of its online grammar course), I am available to present workshops in editing-related subjects---bestsellers include Greatest Hits of Grammar,  Copy-Editing Basics, and Eight-Step Editing.

I have been on EAC's National Executive Council, run its annual conference, and co-chaired its Toronto branch (though not all at the same time).
