I write, ghostwrite, rewrite and edit fiction and non-fiction, with editing emphasis on stylistic and substantive. My greatest pleasure as an editor is finding a quality manuscript, fiction or non-fiction, from a non- or little-published writer, which I can recommend to an agent or publisher. It’s rare but it happens. Experienced in delivering complete editorial projects from concept to finished product. A recent example: I discovered, edited, found a publisher and wrote the introduction for Fiddlers and Whores, a hand-written journal lost since 1805, kept by a young Irish surgeon who learned his trade while sailing with Nelson’s fleet in the Mediterranean. I have a wide range of interests, experience and skills as befits someone who has had separate careers in journalism and business. The journalism background, which incorporated photography, included stints at The Canadian Press and Maclean Hunter and freelancing for major magazines. Two decades in the business world included entrepreneurial, start-up ventures and top management (CEO) of manufacturing, distribution and financial firms. Personal passions apart from golf, tennis, movies and computers include all types of fiction, even mystery and international intrigue, and especially most aspects of history including the Second World War and its aftermath. Can apply a broad and international perspective to clients’ needs since after acquiring a BA in psychology from the University of Toronto I have lived in Canada, USA, UK, Germany and Spain and travelled widely. |
