Adrienne Montgomerie

Profile

Certified editor with 15 yrs' developing learning materials for Pearson, McGraw-Hill Ryerson, independents, & businesses. Interactive, e-, & printed resources for students & teachers, addressing learning, practice, assessment, & instruction.

I love to work on adventure sports material, but I've slipped into an expertise in high school science; chemistry, in particular. I've even slipped into math editing, which would surprise my old teachers. The stuff I learn is the best part of the job. Actually, working with inspired and creative people is why I keep showing up for work. I’m glad the publishers put me on the team with the writers, artists, and designers.

Most of my work is structural and stylistic in nature, which makes me really appreciate the rhythm and precision of the copy editing tasks I receive. New media like interactive white boards, e-readers, and the array of support/ ancillary products get me excited about the future of publishing, and the future of education.

Most of my projects involve subject-matter experts, novice authors, strict learning objectives, tight deadlines, and a team of editors and writers. I work on-screen using Word and Acrobat (for PDFs); skills that I teach to other editors online and in person.

A full list of my clients, projects, and skills is found at Catch the Sun. You can follow me as scieditor on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+, as well as on my blog. Speaking engagements are welcome.

I have also been an advanced first aid trainer and rescue technician (high-angle, ice water, and moving water), a part-time firefighter, a flatwater canoe instructor, a sea kayak guide-in-training, and a karateka. In my spare time, I like to sail, ski the backcountry, take photos, and play with my family.
