Rachel Small

Profile

Professional, thorough, reliable—these are the words I live by as an editor. I am a freelance substantive and copy editor and have varied and extensive experience editing both fiction and non-fiction work. I am adamant about ensuring the author’s voice is retained and understand the challenges writers face based on personal experience.

I frequently attend industry events and seminars and maintain professional and current standards in order to provide my clients with the best service possible. Memoir and autobiography is my passion. Over the past few months, I have edited autobiographies, various works of fiction, annual reports, local-interest non-fiction, corporate documents, and website content.

Recently, I worked in-house as a stylistic editor, copy editor, and proofreader for an educational publisher that specializes in supplementary material for the elementary and junior high market. I have extensive experience editing academic papers and worked as a copy editor and proofreader for a newspaper for several months.

I have a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English from the University of Saskatchewan and have completed several courses in the Certificate in Publishing from Ryerson University.
