Profile

My professional, versatile and results-oriented writing and editing skills are available for creative, challenging freelance work. More than 16 years' working in the magazine/publishing, marketing and communications fields, motherhood and myriad volunteer experiences have provided me with keen insight and multiple skills to apply to editorial, corporate and non-profit freelance projects.

I specialize in homes/gardens/design, health/lifestyle, business and arts/culture, with a great respect for deadlines and budgets, having worked at Chatelaine and Homemakers magazines and at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

I have two university degrees, including a journalism degree from Ryerson University, with a specialty in magazines. My freelance skills include writing/ghostwriting, all forms of editing (such as developmental, project, on-screen and copy editing), including InCopy and InDesign; fact-checking; researching; proofreading (including InCopy and InDesign ); and project consultation/management.

My clients include Canadian Living, The Globe and Mail, Canadian House & Home, Art Gallery of Ontario, Jays Care Foundation, Ignite, Canadian Health, Philter Communications Inc. (EllisDon and Canadian Tire), Scarborough Town Centre and Salon, Ontario Dentist and Elevate magazines.

I copy edit and proofread custom publications for insertion into The Globe and Mail. I write and edit regularly for the Art Gallery of Ontario and Scarborough Town Centre, and I fact-check for Canadian Health and Canadian Living. I'm a feature writer for Canadian House & Home and Ignite, writer and editor for Jays Care Foundation, proofreader and copy editor for Philter Communications, proofreader of  Elevate magazine, copy editor of Salon Magazine, volunteer proofreader of Edition and occasional proofreader of Canadian Living magazine. Wearing yet another freelance hat, I also write and edit various materials for Toronto City Councillor Mary-Margaret McMahon, Ward 32.

I assist students in my son's Grade 3-4 French Immersion class with their French literacy skills on a weekly basis and am a parent rep for that classroom. I also volunteer as a proofreader or copy editor for each issue of Edition, the monthly newsletter of the Toronto branch of the Editors' Association of Canada. During the growing season, I volunteeer my time as a community gardener in The Beach, and my family and I take part in myriad tree-plantings and greening projects throughout the city. This spring I'm volunteering my time as a mentor to a novice EAC editor and, twice yearly, you'll find me working as an official greeter for Woofstock, North America's largest festival for dogs.

I'm a member of the Professional Writers Association of Canada, the Ryerson Journalism Alumni Association, the Canadian Creative Writers and Writing Programs, the Garden Writers Association and the Beach Horticultural & Garden Society.
