Editors' Association of Canada

Lesley Cameron

Profile

Clear, concise writing lets you communicate your message without being misunderstood. I scrutinize every text I work on for spelling, grammar, consistency, and gaps in logic to produce a well-written text that preserves both your voice and your message, and reinforces your hard-earned reputation for quality.

Most of my work comes from repeat clients or professional referrals. I came to Canada from the UK in May 2000 and quickly built up a regular clientele of writers and publishers who appreciate my attention to detail, my ability to meet deadlines, and my diplomacy. I work in a variety of subject areas, and am actively seeking projects in my particular fields of interest — mental and physical health and well-being, nutrition, and psychology. I have also enjoyed working on fiction projects recently and invite creative writing manuscripts, as well.

Having worked as an editor in the UK for several years (including Routledge Publishers, Harrap Publishers, Edinburgh University Press, Manchester University Press), I am experienced in the use of Canadian, UK, and US English and styles. My transcontinental experience also means I can offer localization advice for North American texts destined for a British audience, and vice versa.

Other services: I hold an MA in translating and offer French to English translation, French proofreading, and translation revision services.

EAC participation: I am an active voting member of EAC, and a frequent volunteer for the association. I edited the BC branch newsletter, West Coast Editor, from 2002 to 2004, and proofread the newsletter during 2004 and 2005. I was the Programs Team Lead for the 2006 national conference, held in Vancouver, and continue to serve as a member of the senior editors’ standing advisory committee for programming.

Other ways you can find me: British English, English, French, translator, translating, translation, memoirs, biography, personal history, fiction, health and safety reports, official languages reports, Canadian Parents for French, arthritis research, Canadian Cancer Society, Commonwealth of Learning, Legal Services Society of BC, nutrition, health, wellness, women’s health, children’s health, psychology, eating disorders, mental health, women’s issues, forensic anthropology.
