Barbara Howe

I crave books. I love to read books. I love to write books. I love to edit books. My specialty is developmental editing. I like to look at the story, dissect all the different parts, and put them back together again. When giving feedback and making suggestions for an edit, I ask the author dozens of questions about aspects of the world and characters they have built. I ask these questions, because the reader will ask them, too. It's just better if I ask them first.

I am a freelance editor and proofreader with a love of the lyrical beauty of the English language. I graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History and a minor in English (concentration in creative writing). I worked for two years as a Teaching Assistant in the History Department, where I provided stylistic and copy editing feedback on academic essays.

In November 2016, I completed the six-week Print and Digital Editing Immersion Workshop at Simon Fraser University, because of my desire to start editing non-fiction and fiction books.

Currently enrolled in the Publishing Certificate program at Ryerson University and taking the Copy Editing for Books, Journals and Articles course.
