Deegy Dallong

Surrey, BC V3S9G1

I specialize in editing non-fiction, working with self-publishing authors and helping non-profit organizations. I’m a copy editor, proofreader, developmental editor, and web editor with an Editing Certificate through Simon Fraser University (2018). I also format manuscripts and create .pdf files for print publishing and .mobi and .epub files for e-book publishing utilizing Vellum software.

My Background

I have an extensive work history involving aspects of business writing, documentation, fundraising, and editing as a leader and a coach with a non-profit organization (not-for-profit). I have front-line experience in the social service sector and am familiar with social issues such as abuse (physical and sexual), drug use, recovery, homelessness, housing, and mental health. I have also provided support for First Nation and LGBTQ2S communities.

I have experience with and strong interests in the culinary arts (cookbooks), fine arts, graphic design, hiking, hockey, photography, poetry, religion, and spirituality.

I am also a photographer, writer, and poet.

Here are a few testimonials from some of my clients:

"Deegy is an all-around editor whose experience and professionalism is shown in the quality of his work. He helped me—not just to correct the grammar and tenses in my manuscript, but by giving me feedback on tone and flow. He asked questions and always answered mine. He created a style sheet for consistency and helped me to make an appendix with links. He also made sure that all of the citations in my manuscript were done properly, along with a bibliography. In general, he helped me to transform my work into a polished piece. I could not have been happier with the work he provided. I would hire him again in an instant, and I look forward to working with him on my next project.”

—Joana Corzo, self-publishing writer

"I am very happy with the edits Deegy did on my book. He changed the tone and energy of much of the content in a way that was fitting, compelling, and healthier than before. He made helpful observations and suggestions that made the book better and that was much needed to reshape the book so the readers didn’t get lost. I am very thankful he did the edits for me.”

—René Lafaut MSc., self-published author

"I consider myself a rookie when it comes to writing. Getting words on paper isn’t an issue for me but putting everything together in a way that’s concise, easy to follow, and engaging for the audience I’m trying to reach is where I struggle. Working with Deegy eliminated those problems for me. At the time he began working on my project he was overseas. Despite the distance between us, I was impressed by his communication and how he walked me through the editing process from start to finish. His professionalism and skill set is hard to find these days. Without a doubt, I’ll be using his services again in the near future and highly recommend the same for any aspiring writers out there."
