Profile

Publish with Confidence

Are you ready to take the next step along your writing journey? I am a literary fiction editor who helps independent and self-publishing authors prepare their books for market.

I share your passion for the written word … from historical fiction to sci-fi! Whether a beginning writer or seasoned author, I ensure your work is not only error-free but engaging to readers.

With twelve years of experience, and a certification in proofreading from Editors Canada, you can rest assured I will bring a high level of professionalism to any project.

Nervous about working with an editor, or not sure what type of editing you need? I am happy to provide a free sample edit to help clarify the type and level of edit required, as well as give a sense of the overall cost and timeline for the project.

Above all, I’m here to encourage and support, guiding you along your writing journey.

Services

How can I help? Maybe you are struggling with a late draft and looking for some guidance, or know your prose needs smoothing. Perhaps your grammar needs refining to reflect industry standards.

I’ll work carefully through your manuscript, attending to dialogue, narrative, and everything in between. Let me do the nitty gritty so you can concentrate on what you enjoy best—telling stories.

Services offered include Manuscript Evaluation, Mini Line & Copy Edit, Full Line & Copy Edit, and Proofreading.

As an editor, my goal is to bring out the best in my client’s work, always respecting an individual’s voice and style. Throughout my career, I have developed a reputation as reliable and self-directed with a sharp eye for detail. My past experiences include editing novels for self-publishing and independent authors, as well as plays and short stories.

Education

Reading and writing have been my lifelong passions. I spent my childhood devouring, creating, and acting out stories. When teachers called for peer-editing I was that classmate who actually returned papers with corrections.

Becoming an editor only felt natural.

I have a BA(Hons.) in English Literature from Trent University and a certificate in Creative Book Publishing from Humber College. I began to learn the business of publishing as an editorial assistant, and am an active member of Editors Canada as well as a certified proofreader. My experience has given me familiarity with the publishing process, as well as with editing best practices, grammar, copy editing and proofreading marks, and on-screen editing with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. Not one to rest on my laurels, I continually seek new learning opportunities through various courses, seminars, and webinars.

I love my career, but after working for a variety of companies I began to crave more freedom for my creativity. In 2015, Jennifer Dinsmore Editorial was born.

Since then, I have worked for a wide variety of publishers, independent authors, and organizations. Clients love my professional, friendly service, and I have developed a reputation as a reliable editor with a sharp eye for detail.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of spending my days as I’ve always dreamed: immersed in words and stories.

Testimonials

"Jennifer is a consistent and detailed editor. She is a consummate professional and communicates well with authors and publishers alike. Her queries to authors are considered and well-formed, and she picks up on changes a less-experienced editor would overlook. Jennifer is the first person I call when I'm in need of freelance editorial work." — Blake Sproule, Editor at Playwrights Canada Press

“Jennifer’s on-time, professional, and comprehensive editing service has made refining our manuscripts a breeze instead of a burden! Her attention to detail catches the small things that make a difference in polishing a book to a shine. The value she places on preserving our voice, style, and vision are invaluable." — Renee Peters & Rae Stilwell, Authors of "The Aegean Immortals" series
