You are here
I am here to help new authors and writers whose circumstances and/or disabilities cause a barrier to publishing their art.
I own an editorial company called Veneration (n. the act of having great respect for something or someone) that provides manuscript editing, proofreading, critiques, and query letter writing for authors.
I am a writer first and foremost. I work as an editor because my dedication to writing means I can passionately help other writers realize their dream of being published. I know personally the power of writing to influence, contextualize, and even save lives. I know the perfect elation of finishing writing a book and wanting nothing else but a little guidance and support in sharing that book with the world. I also know the joy of giving this support to another writer.
My training as an editor certainly has gone hand-in-hand with my writing, and therefore has been life-long. However, I have been formally educated at University of Toronto, where I studied English literature, and at Simon Fraser University, where I studied the particularities of editing writing.
Although my work is geared towards fellow writers, I offer editing services for businesses and PhD students too.
I thoroughly enjoyed the year I spent as the sole editor (and occasional copy writer) to a boutique public relations company. Amidst very tight deadlines, I fact-checked and polished each press release, promotional material, and presentation, so my client could put all writerly concerns out of her business-oriented mind.
I am a voracious and open-minded reader. I love the classics and literary types of writing; anything deep, poetic, emotional, Romantic, philosophical, heavy, tragic… and I couldn’t possibly list favourite authors because the list would be much too long, and I would fear forgetting someone. That being said, I see the value in all types of novels because every kind of reader deserves a plethora of writing to consume.
What sets me apart…
-absolute professionalism: I have heard too many stories of editors personally attacking writers, disrespectfully tearing apart their work, or trying to make the writing “better” to the editor’s tastes rather than the author’s. I would never treat a client that way, and I would never talk down to a writer.
-speed! Working for a business has adequately prepared me to get things done quickly and effectively.
-personal understanding and appreciation as a fellow writer
-very reasonable rates: I like to set my prices with respect for a writer’s budget.
