I provide all levels of respectful and kind editing for traditionally-published, self-published, and emerging writers in most genres. YA vampire novels, literary fiction, poetry, and paranormal thrillers cross my desk frequently, as well as memoirs and travel adventure narratives. I am a writer with six books in print: the latest of which was shortlisted for the Georges Bugnet Award for Fiction. In addition to my experience, my personality is ideally suited to working with authors who may be shy to show their work to someone with whom they're not familiar.
I hold a First Class Honours degree in English from the University of Alberta, and have been editing and evaluating manuscripts for private clients and book publishers for over eight years. My press clients include University of Alberta Press, Arsenal Pulp Press, Thistledown Press, Turnstone Press, Wolsak&Wynn, and Radiant Press. I have extensive experience as a Writer in Residence and mentor, both on a one-and-one basis, and in workshop/teaching settings. As a member of the faculty of Sage Hill Writing Experience (one of the most prestigious writing schools in Canada), I co-facilitated intense writing and revising immersion camps for adults.
Here are some testimonials from my clients:
"Kimmy Beach is the best investment I’ve ever given to myself. A gift from me, to me. She saw what was good and real and didn’t make me feel small. She gave me the best of her experience, her humour, and her soul."
"Like a surgeon, [Kimmy] fixed atrophying sections of the book with painstaking consideration for my voice. I’m a collaborative writer and I loved that she was open to brainstorming with me during those needy moments when the arc and structure eluded me. I’ll be forever grateful for both her line edits and structural advice. My book is far better for the detailed attention and honest conversation."
"One of the most surprising and delightful aspects of Kimmy’s work was her sense of humour, which jumped off the margins of my manuscript page."
