My job as an editor begins when the writing is done. As a freelance editor, I am passionate about my work assisting authors prepare their manuscripts for publication. I have coordinated large research projects through the academic publication process for more than 15 years formatting manuscripts and compiling indexes. I developed these skills while completing a Masters in Political Science at Simon Fraser University and taking courses with the Simon Fraser Publishing Program. I am a proficient user of MS Office 2011, Excel, web-based search engines, and research and statistical analysis using StatCan database. In my capacity as an editor I prepare texts for publication and create indexes based on what authors want to see included in their book. I am responsible for designing the layout of a manuscript according to publishing house style guidelines, formatting front pages, table of contents, chapters, tables and charts, endnotes, references and bibliographies in a consistent manner. With fresh eyes, I take note of copywriting errors, inconsistencies and irregularities, and report back to authors about any changes that are required. Once a manuscript is typeset I compile the index.

My work as an editor demonstrates that I take real ownership over my work domain and have developed good relationships with authors and editors with educational and international publishing houses. I have worked with a wide range of academic publishers such as UBC Press, University of Toronto Press, McGill-Queens University Press, University of Chicago Press, State University of New York Press, and international publishers including Routledge, Ashgate Publishing, Zed Books and Kluwer Academic Publishers. My experience in publishing makes me a good candidate to work with graduate and PhD students formatting research papers according to university guidelines under the direction of their supervisors.

My experience as an academic editor has given me the opportunity to work with authors with diverse languages and cultural backgrounds. I am a good listener and non-reactive communicator, personable and able to quickly build rapport and relationships. My passion for preparing books for publication has given me the great pleasure of working with outstanding authors in their fields of social sciences and humanities on a wide range of subjects including but not limited to neoliberal politics and public policies, trade agreements, climate change, employment, labour and gender issues. This type of work requires me to be a flexible thinker with excellent communication and listening skills and comfortable and quick with technology. I provide excellent customer care and prioritize tasks quickly and effectively. My work history demonstrates my ability to stay present and focused in a multitask environment. I strive to be a clear thinker and to stay organized and impeccable with the ability to flow and easily adapt to changes.

Through my volunteer experience and current position as President of the Dogwood Garden Club in Coquitlam I have developed an appreciation of gardening in super, natural British Columbia. I am looking forward to finding new and exciting opportunities to expand my work experience by connecting with local authors writing about horticulture. As a member of the Port Moody Art Association I welcome the opportunity to work with artists who are seeking assistance with publishing or indexing their manuscripts. My current area of research has been focused on physical fitness, mental health and addictions. I am very interested in working with authors in the field of social change regarding health and wellbeing.
