Profile

Are you in need of clear, accurate, polished material? I can help. I am committed to excellence and will give your documents the care they need.

My communications training includes a Certificate in Editing (Simon Fraser University); core training in literature, languages, linguistics, TESOL methodology, and translation (University of Toronto, OISE, Alliance Française); and a writing-and-research-intensive degree in Anthropology and History of Fine Arts (University of Toronto, HBA, honours).

As a researcher and writer, I have researched and developed training handbooks, procedures guides, and ESL materials. I have also published my own scholarly research. Fields: theatre and arts governance, multiculturalism, history, and art history.

As an editor, I have worked on scholarly texts, Web copy, press releases, email blasts, newsletters, fundraising appeals, grant proposals, exhibition catalogues, calls for artists, calls for papers, technical documents, policy and procedures guides, course materials, mental health assessment forms, correspondence, and reports. Fields: visual arts, arts governance, multiculturalism, history, environmental conservation, education (provincial curriculum), and mental health and addictions (policy documents and a psychopharmacology course).

As a proofreader for firms specializing in academic publishing, I proofread a wide range of educational and scholarly texts (frequently multilingual). My proficiency in French is useful in the role, as is my reading knowledge of Spanish and German, and my much more limited acquaintance with Latin and Old English. Fields: sociology, communications, political science, history, philosophy, literature, mathematics.

As a translator, I have completed numerous French-to-English translations. Document types have included press releases, email blasts, grant proposals, and Web copy. I have also edited material by ESL writers, including their translations of French material into English. Field: environmental conservation.

I have additional training and work experience in disability issues, sensory disabilities, psychology, addictions, and mental health (McMaster University, CNIB, CAMH, University of Toronto), and in Adult Education and Special Education (Mohawk College, Cambrian College). Beyond this, I have served on various community boards related to the arts (visual arts, theatre) and have acquired a general knowledge of board governance, collections management, digitization, and event management.

As is evident, I have wide-ranging interests and enjoy contributing my knowledge and skills to improve any document, whether it's a straightforward piece of correspondence or an academic publication. As a writer myself, I am aware of the hardships of the writing process, so I bring not only skill but respect and compassion to the job.

I look forward to working with you to produce your best work.
