I earned a PhD in English from the University of Cambridge and have extensive editorial experience across a wide range of academic disciplines. I have worked in academia for several decades as a researcher, writer, post-doctoral fellow, course instructor, editor, writing coach/consultant, library research instructor, and publishing assistant.

I have edited professional scholarly writing for publication, including books, journal articles, and theses/dissertations. I have also led writing workshops and worked with established scholars and graduate students whose first language is not English.

I personally have a significant track record in winning awards for academic research from provincial, national, and international sources of funding. I have offered workshops about how to apply for SSHRC fellowships, and I have edited applications for funding and for admission to professional programs of study.

I offer painstaking structural editing, stylistic editing, copyediting, and proofreading in the following areas:

     • scholarly books and articles (in the humanities and social sciences, especially theoretical and multidisciplinary approaches);

     • non-fiction (especially translating current research and the state of knowledge to a general, educated audience);

     • creative non-fiction (e.g. personal essays and life writing);

     • literary fiction (particularly short stories); and

     • applications (e.g. grants, awards, funding, admission to programs).
