I'm an experienced editor of fiction and creative nonfiction. My editorial training includes courses in developmental editing and in copy, stylistic, and structural editing; seminars in proofreading and digital markup; workshops; individual study via a growing collection of writing books and style guides; and an internship at HarperCollins Canada. In the past, I have worked for corporate clients in the financial sector and with a diverse group of individuals on a variety of editorial projects, but I now focus on fiction and creative-nonfiction manuscripts.

My specialties are manuscript evaluation/critique and developmental editing. For writers at any experience level, a manuscript evaluation can save time, money, and frustration. Quite often, a problem identified at the start of a piece of fiction or creative nonfiction can be corrected throughout the manuscript by you, the writer, on your own. A developmental edit is a longer commitment to work closely with me while I identify issues in your manuscript and suggest fixes for them. This type of edit has the potential to elevate your manuscript, especially if you're a first-time author, to something worthy of a second look by an agent or acquisitions editor. Together, we will assess the overall structure and theme(s) of your novel or creative nonfiction piece before addressing setting, plot, character development and motivation, point of view, voice, dialogue, pacing, and conflict.

My goal is to provide you with high-quality editorial services, a professional and co-operative working relationship, and a project delivered on time and at a reasonable cost. I will respect your voice while giving your words their best chance at finding an appreciative audience. If you're a new client with a full-length manuscript that requires editing, I’m happy to provide you with a short sample edit of your work. The main purpose of this is to help you decide whether I would be a good fit for you and your project.

Non-editorial education: A bachelor of arts from the University of Toronto and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
