Profile
I’ve been editing and proofreading fiction, textbooks, scholarly publications, and trade nonfiction since 1999. My clients include established publishers and independent authors who self-publishing or seeking contracts. Authors have called me “a true professional, incredibly thorough” and “the sweetest copy editor alive.” Am I the right editor for your project?
My expertise in fiction is in manuscript evaluation and substantive, stylistic, and copy editing of long-form fantasy, science fiction, romance (including erotic and cross-genre romance), and YA. I am not accepting new clients for manuscript evaluation, but I am for stylistic and copy editing. I also work in literary and historical fiction. For science fiction and fantasy series authors, my services include world bible (series bible) creation and maintenance, whether you’re catching up on a series begun earlier withour one or are on your first novel.
As a stylistic editor, copy editor, proofreader, and indexer of nonfiction, I have considerable experience in social sciences, biography, history, current events, popular science, exhibition catalogues, and books in translation. With many a college and university textbook under my belt — in sociology, psychology, economics, management, communication, biology, anthropology, and more — I am also interested in supporting faculty who are creating their own or open-source textbooks. I am also keen on new projects in the biological and environmental sciences, with particular interest in ecology, evolution, and entomology. I can copy edit your lab’s articles for submission, sort out your documentation or convert it between styles, or polish your thesis or dissertation (but first see Editors Canada’s Guidelines for Ethical Editing of Student Texts).
For many years, alongside freelancing, I taught copy editing and proofreading in and co-coordinated the Toronto Metropolitan University Publishing certificate program. I am also a former director and chair of the Book and Periodical Council, an umbrella group for Canadian book and magazine publishing associations.
