Primary contact:
Experienced public speaker, available to talk to groups and associations about editors and editing.

I’m an editor and writer with almost two decades’ experience in helping authors communicate more clearly. Through more than 20 years in university press publishing, plus freelance editorial work on the side, I’ve developed a broad range of relevant skills—from the meticulous detail work of copy-editing a 20-page bibliography, to negotiating nuances of meaning in a sophisticated discussion of legal philosophy, to keeping a grant application within the required word count, to ensuring that authors writing in their second or third language are saying what they want to say to English-speaking readers. I’ve also gained a deep understanding of the scholarly communication ecosystem. Finally, experiencing the editorial process from the other side of the desk as an author of published essays, articles, and books has strengthened my commitment to giving every text and every author I work with the same thoughtfulness, care, respect, and attention—whatever the format, topic, or target audience.

Through my in-house and freelance editorial work, I have learned my way around a variety of style manuals and documentation styles, as well as the  conventions of a range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and health sciences. My favourite thing about editing is that every manuscript teaches me something new!
