Academic editor specializing in education, especially English language teaching. Over 25 years' experience working with international writers and educational publishers. Published textbook author, university/college ESL teacher, Master of Education in English Language Teaching.

Thank you for visiting my profile. Are you looking for an editor/proofreader of academic or educational material? Are you writing a thesis, dissertation, journal article, or book? Is English not your first language? I can help.

My work falls into three categories:

1) Work with individual academic writers

As a past (and still occasional) teacher of university/college-level ESL, I love editing academic papers: theses, dissertations, articles, conference papers, research proposals, and other academic texts. I can help you to turn your document into a clear, accurate, convincing, and properly formatted piece of work. I work primarily in APA, with other styles on request.

I have over 25 years' experience working with international writers whose first languages include Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, and more. I understand the kinds of challenges writers from various language backgrounds face when writing in English, and I provide clear and instructive feedback.

I have edited papers on a wide variety of topics, including education, business, fine arts, information technology, law, anthropology, international relations, computer science, advertising, and others.

2) Work with publishers

I have extensive experience with publishers of English language teaching (ELT) materials. I am experienced in developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, and British/North American localization. My clients have included Alpha/Smart Education, the British Council, Cambridge University Press, Mentoring Minds, National Geographic, Oxford University Press, Richmond ELT, and more. I have travelled to Kazakhstan to deliver training in developmental editing. Are you interested in self-publishing educational materials? Let's talk!

3) Work with teachers' organizations

For the last ten years, I have worked with the International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) as editor of two flagship publications. I am currently editor of IATEFL's bimonthly magazine, Voices. I was editor of IATEFL's refereed Conference Selections for ten years. In these roles, I have edited over 1,000 short papers on aspects of teaching and learning.

When I'm not editing...

I am a textbook writer. My publications include Critical Reading and Say What You Mean, Book 2, both published by Pearson ELT Canada. I have also recently authored College Skills: Intermediate English, an academic upgrading textbook for Indigenous students in northern BC. I have authored or co-authored various other materials for learners of English (please see my website for details). I have also designed curricula for EAP programs at colleges/universities across Canada. I have trained teachers (most recently, I went to Cuba to train teachers of academic English). I am a frequent conference presenter, primarily on materials development for EAP students. I still occasionally find my way back into the classroom, most recently at Sir Sandford Fleming College (Canada) and the University of Warwick (UK).
