Profile
A woman of many hats (and words)! I have worked in media and communications for over 35 years. I have done all levels of editing, from substantive to proofreading. I have edited books, theses, proposals, brochures, annual reports, teachers’ guides, websites, and news releases.
My pride and joy is Nova Scotia Cookery Then & Now, a collection of archival recipes from the Nova Scotia Archives, matched with chefs for a modern interpretation, published in November 2017. I chose the content, organized the book, wrote the introduction, and edited the recipes.
As a freelancer, I have worked extensively in the film and television industry, writing and researching documentaries on a huge array of topics including food, longevity, social media, counterfeit goods, and body language. I have researched and written magazine articles, news stories, restaurant reviews, book reviews, websites, and radio reports. I have presented workshops on communicating skills, writing basics, and working with the media.
I often work as a writing coach with individuals in government and unions. I write profiles of new arrivals to the province for Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia, and I am a director of Open Harbour Refugee Association, a community group that sponsors refugee families to come to Canada.
