1. REMINDER: Submit your nomination for the Tom Fairley Award

Do you know an editor who’s made an outstanding contribution to a work published in Canada in English or French during the 2005 calendar year? If so, now’s the time to nominate that person for the 2005 Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence.

This award, which is accompanied by a $2,000 cash prize, recognizes the editor’s often invisible contribution to written communication. The award will be presented at the banquet of the EAC conference in Vancouver on June 10, 2006.

Deadlines:

1. Friday, February 10, 2006 for the letter of nomination
2. Friday, February 24, 2006 for the supporting documentation and administration fee

Self-nominations are encouraged.

For complete nomination instructions and other information about the award, visit the Tom Fairley Award page.

2. WEBSITE UPDATE: Launch date announced

Development of the new EAC website is well underway and the new site will be launched on February 14, 2006.

The new EAC website is being completely redesigned and expanded. Developed with user ease in mind, it boasts a brand new and up-to-date layout and completely re-organized content. Look for several new and exciting features to be announced as the launch date approaches.

3. ACTIVE VOICE: National executive council appoints new editors

The national executive council is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Active Voice editors in November 2005.  Saskatoon branch members Wilf Popoff and Michelle Boulton are hard at work on the next issue, which is scheduled to be published in February.

The council thanks outgoing editors Peter Roccia and Leslie Vermeer for their work on EAC’s national newsletter in the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 terms.

4. NATIONAL OFFICE: Staff news

The national office has appointed Michelle Ou as the new communications coordinator.

Michelle joined the national office staff on December 12, 2005, and will be responsible for writing, editing and coordinating internal and external communications, working closely with executive director Lynne Massey and committees of association members. Prior to joining the national office, Michelle spent several years as a financial, health and real estate editor and as a website developer for various clients across North America.

The EAC National E-News Update is produced on behalf of the national executive council by the national office.
