3. PUBLICATIONS: Start the presses!

EAC’s newest publications hit the press

We’re proud to announce that EAC’s newest publications, Proofreading: Meeting Professional Editorial Standards and Copy Editing: Certification Study Guide, have gone to press! Many thanks to all of the dedicated volunteers who saw these huge projects through from concept to delivery.

Want to get your own copy of these new publications? We’re planning to have them available for sale at the Exclamation Mart! conference vendor fair on Saturday, May 29. Of course, they’ll also be available for purchase through EAC’s distributor and co-publisher, Captus Press. Stay tuned for official sale dates.

Revised Professional Editorial Standards to be printed free of charge by Pearson Canada

We’re also happy to announce that Pearson Canada has generously agreed to print the new edition of Professional Editorial Standards (revised and updated in 2009 to reflect the skills and knowledge required by editors today) free of charge.

Many thanks to EAC members Anita Jenkins (chair, Marketing and Public Relations Committee) and Cy Strom who, together with David Jolliffe and Melva McLean (chair, Publications Committee), orchestrated this generous arrangement.

4. GET INVOLVED: Volunteer needed to assist EAC president

The national executive council is looking for a member volunteer to assist to EAC’s president, Michelle Boulton. The volunteer will organize and carry out tasks for Michelle over the next six months. Tasks will include correspondence with members, external contacts and partners, document management (e.g., report summarization), and other assignments as necessary. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other EAC members and to learn how EAC and the national executive council work.

If you’re interested in this volunteer position, please contact Ursula Acton.

5. AGM: 2009–10 Annual Report coming soon

New publications, awards and a web migration project? What else was EAC up to this year? Read all about it in EAC’s 2009–10 Annual Report, which will be posted to the annual general meeting page in the coming days.

As we ramp up to the annual general meeting, be sure to check the page often for the Annual Report and other supporting documents.

EAC’s annual general meeting takes place at 3:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 29 at Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec’s Grande Bibliothèque in Montreal.

6. SHOP EAC: New products

Spread the word about the EAC with these stickers and magnets featuring the catchy “You write it. We right it.” slogan. Use the stickers to jazz up a plain binder, folder, notebook or any other flat, smooth surface you can think of. Consider a bulk pack to share with others if you can’t use them all yourself.

These items are available for sale only until June 30, 2010, so hurry over to EAC’s CafePress shop to make your secure online purchase today.

The EAC national e-news update is produced on behalf of the national executive council by the national office.
