Wednesday, October 16 — Editors on Social Media
As former journalists, editors Janine Harker and Virginia St-Denis will adopt an old-school 5Ws (and an H) approach to the questions around using social media to grow your editing business.
- Who are you on social media?
- Why would you use social media as an editor?
- Where can you grow your social media presence?
- What types of content deliver the greatest benefit on each of these platforms?
- When should you post and how often?
- How you can increase and monitor the value you are getting from your social media presence?
Join the lively discussion about the potentials and pitfalls of using social media platforms to market your editing business, the strengths and weaknesses of various social media platforms, the benefits and pitfalls that accompany combined and separate social media accounts, and an overview of tools to monitor and track the value of your social media activity. Be prepared to be simultaneously intrigued, disturbed and motivated to explore your social media presence from a new perspective.
Wednesday, November 20 — Beyond the Page
Join Editors Ottawa-Gatineau at Beyond the Pale Brewery for a holiday celebration.
This year, we will be joined by Luise von Flotow, a professor of translation and interpretation at the University of Ottawa. She will speak about literary translation, a craft that requires looking beyond the exact words on the page to capture the meaning and nuance of a text in a different language.
Come prepared for food, drink, thoughtful discussion, and perhaps a game or two!
Tickets: $25 for students/members and $35 for non-members. Only 55 tickets are available for this event, so don't delay!
Tickets include 2 drink tickets and food provided by Smoqueshack.
