The Editors Canada conference committee is now inviting session proposals for the 2021 conference, which will be held virtually from June 12 to 13, 2021.
The 2021 conference theme is Editors Transform. The conference committee welcomes presentations and workshops related to the theme and one of the four streams:
- Career Builder — sessions that help members conduct and grow their business. Examples: where and how to find work, contracts, work-life balance, markets, and expanding services.
- Editing and Society — sessions about how editors can consider and encourage storytelling that changes our world rather than perpetuates current systems. Examples: climate change, racism, COVID-19, and social inequities.
- Language and Diversity — sessions on language as a tool for inclusivity. Examples: who tells and edits stories, recognizing appropriation, sensitivity reading, and language that reduces marginalization.
- Technology, Techniques, and Tools — sessions about how editors can use current and emerging technology and tools. Examples: productivity tools, bookkeeping and editing programs, creating a healthy workspace, and genre-specific tools and techniques.
In keeping with our theme, the committee invites you to consider how editors, editing, and Editors Canada have transformed and how they might change in the future. Sessions can be offered in English, French, or both. Sessions will be one hour long, including time for introductions, other activities, and Q&A.
If you have an idea for a session or would like to participate in a panel discussion, please complete and submit the Speaker Proposal Form. Proposals for additional panel topics are also welcome.
All completed proposals must be received by 11:59 p.m. EST, Friday, January 8, 2021.
Selection and notification
The conference committee will evaluate every proposal and inform applicants of its decisions by February 5, 2021.
If your proposal is selected, you will be eligible for a reduction in the conference registration fee. Further participation in the conference is highly encouraged but is not required.
Thank you for your interest. We look forward to receiving your proposal! Please feel free to share this call for speakers with your networks.
