The Editors Canada conference committee is now inviting session proposals for the 2022 conference. Due to an existing venue contract, we're tentatively planning a hybrid event that will be held May 27–29, 2022, in Edmonton, Alberta, and online. However, as the COVID-19 situation in Alberta continues to evolve, our plans will have to remain flexible. A hybrid event would provide the most options for attendees, but it also presents more logistical challenges than either online or in-person alone. For more information, visit the conference website.
For the 2022 conference, the committee welcomes presentations and workshops on one of four topics:
- Business of editing — sessions that help members conduct and grow their business. Examples: where and how to find work, contracts, work-life balance, markets, and expanding services.
- Editing, society, and diversity — sessions about how editors can encourage storytelling that changes our world and how language can be used as a tool for inclusivity. Examples: climate change, racism, social inequities, appropriation, language that reduces marginalization.
- Foundations of editing — sessions on the basic and not-so-basic skills that editors need to do their work. Examples: key aspects of different kinds of editing, special considerations for editing in different fields and genres, what you wish you knew when you first started editing.
- Tools and technology — sessions about how editors can use current and emerging technology and tools. Examples: productivity tools, bookkeeping and editing programs, creating a healthy workspace, and genre-specific tools and techniques.
Sessions can be offered in English, French, or both. Sessions will be one hour long, including time for introductions, other activities, and Q&A. On the Speaker Proposal Form you will be able to select your preference for presenting virtually or in person in Edmonton.
If you have an idea for a session or would like to participate in a panel discussion, please complete and submit the Speaker Proposal Form. Proposals for additional panel topics are also welcome.
UPDATE: Deadline extended to 11:59 p.m. EST, Monday, January 17, 2022

The conference committee will evaluate every proposal and inform applicants of its decisions by February 14, 2022.
