Celebrating in Atlantic Canada

Conference 2019 takes place June 7–9 at the Westin Nova Scotian hotel, right near the boardwalk in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This year is Editors Canada's 40th anniversary so we're going to take the opportunity to celebrate this milestone with a weekend packed with learning, networking and fun.

Linden MacIntyre and Sheree Fitch to give keynote addresses

Linden MacIntyre Profile Photo

The conference will open Saturday morning with a keynote address by Linden MacIntyre, a renowned journalist and author, who has spent 50 years working in print, television, and radio. His career at the CBC includes 24 years at The Fifth Estate, 7 years as a journalist-producer at The Journal, and 3 years as host and national editor of the CBC current affairs radio program Sunday Morning. He is the author of seven books, and his second novel, The Bishop’s Man, was the winner of the 2009 Scotiabank Giller Prize.

Sheree Fitch Keynote Speaker EAC Conference 2019 Editors Canada

We'll wrap up on Sunday afternoon with Sheree Fitch, a multi-award-winning writer, speaker, and educator. Since the publication of her first book in 1987, Toes in My Nose, she's travelled the globe as a visiting poet and storyteller, writing instructor, and literacy educator. She has also received the Vicky Metcalf Award for Literature for Young People, an award given to authors with a body of work that is inspirational to Canadian children.

Speakers and sessions

Our speaker coordinators are hard at work finalizing sessions and developing this year's program. We have a number of excellent speakers lined up and will post sessions descriptions and bios to the website as they are confirmed. Watch out for topics like using macros, dealing with "editorial anxiety," and tips and techniques for working on citations and graphs. We'll also be arranging sessions that highlight Atlantic Canada, including a presentation on the local Mi'kmaq culture.

Fun, festivities and further learning opportunities

Don't miss the opening reception on Friday evening or the awards banquet on Saturday evening (featuring the always hilarious Oops Awards).

In addition to our regular conference program, Editors Nova Scotia will offer a full day of pre-conference professional development seminars on Friday, June 7.
