Editors Canada is pleased to announce that registration for our 2020 conference, From Papyrus to Pixels: International Editing Trends, is now open!
Editing goes global again
This will be the 2nd international conference hosted by Editors Canada and we're inviting the world to join us June 19–21 at Le Centre Sheraton hotel in the heart of downtown Montreal, Quebec.
We'll be hosting editors from around the globe for a weekend packed with learning, networking and fun. Our international conference is a bit different from the usual format, offering three full days of programming to maximize your professional development opportunities.
Reasons to attend an international conference
Editors trying to break into freelancing or boost their careers sometimes ask whether attending a conference is a good investment. If it's run by Editors Canada, the answer is an enthusiastic yes. The 2015 Editing Goes Global conference I attended was top of the line.
I attend many conferences, and in my view Editors Canada's are the best of the best, whether you're new to editing or already a professional.
- Carol Saller, United States
Editing Goes Global was my first editors' conference, and my first visit to North America. It was a wonderful experience for me. Editors Canada was kind enough to ask me to sit on two panels. The sessions I attended were fascinating and wide-ranging, but an equally important element for me was meeting many colleagues from Canada, the US, the UK and elsewhere whom I had previously got to know through editors' groups on Facebook.
Editors Canada really knows how to run a conference. If you're considering attending the 2020 international conference, my advice is: do it! You'll be glad you did.
- Brendan O'Brien, Ireland
It is always a pleasure to meet my peers through such events/activities.
The global conference is also a great opportunity to explore other aspects of editing since some cultural realities of editing (e.g. regionalisms, spelling variations, idioms, etc.) vary depending on the region we live in and the location of our clients. Such aspects were at the heart of several invaluable discussions.
- Marie-Christine Payette, Canada
The experience of attending my first conference, and that too an international one, was amazing.
The conference opened my eyes to a world of possibilities, brought in awareness about a lot of things, and helped me make friends for life.
- Vivek Kumar, India
The 2015 Editing Goes Global conference was the first large conference I spoke at. It was a great opportunity to network in the flesh with online friends and colleagues from around the world, to learn from leaders and specialists and experts in every aspect of editing, to commiserate about difficult clients, to share stories about fabulous clients, and to celebrate the fellowship and goodwill of more introverted word nerds than had perhaps ever gathered in one place before.
Plus it was good for business.
- Dick Margulis, United States
Editing Goes Global made the editorial world a lot smaller. As a freelancer, it's too easy to feel isolated in my work. Meeting colleagues from across the globe who share my keen interest in the written word brought home the fact that we're all part of a truly international community.
- Christina Frey, United States
Fun, festivities and further learning opportunities
Don't miss the opening reception on Friday evening or the awards banquet on Saturday evening, where we'll announce the winners of the Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence, the Claudette Upton Scholarship, and the Karen Virag Award.

Travelling to Canada
Many visitors to Canada do not need a visa but will still need an Electronic Travel Authorization if arriving in Canada at an airport. This applies to visitors from nearly all countries, including the United States.
Visitors from some countries need travel visas from the Canadian government. It can take several weeks or months to get a visa authorised, so check the Government of Canada website that lists all the requirements.
If your visa requirements include having an official invitation letter from the conference organizers, we can write one. Send an email with all of the information you need to include (it varies by country) to the conference co-chairs.
