Networking Events

Build your network! Come out of isolation! Networking events give you an opportunity to network and socialize with fellow editors, proofreaders, translators, and other language professionals. Whether you are a new or a potential EC member, you will meet the Quebec branch executive and learn more about us. Occasionally, invited editors or professionals in related fields will be on hand to share their experience, knowledge, tricks and tips in an informal atmosphere.

When and Where

The date, time and place of each meeting, as well as other pertinent information are provided in the announcement of each activity. Meetings are most often held in Montréal. If you would like to organize a meeting in your region, let us know so that we can share your invitation with all our members and partners, and publicize it on our website.


Editors Canada members: free
Non-members $10 or $15 (depending on the event)

Unless otherwise indicated, all meal or refreshment costs are covered individually.

Cocktails “Entre nous” second edition!

The executive committee of Editors Québec would like to invite you to the “second edition” of our special “Entre nous” cocktail event. With a free buffet, opportunities for networking and conversation, this will be an activity reserved only for members of Editors Canada and its affiliated students—a unique occasion for creating bonds between members, old and new alike. Representatives on the Executive Committee will be there to answer your questions. The Annual General Meeting will follow at 7:30 p.m..

PUBLISHING ROUNDTABLE   (Presentations in French)

Are you dying to discover the world of publishing and to learn more about the editor’s role in this field? Come join us for this roundtable bringing together four active professionals who have followed different career paths.

Date: Wednesday, February 7, 2018
Time: Roundtable at 6:00 pm, followed by an hour of networking starting at 7:00 pm
Location: Université de Sherbrooke (Longueuil campus), 150 Place Charles-Le Moyne, in Longueuil, Quebec, room L1-4605
Public transit: Adjacent to the Longueuil metro station

Cost: $10 for members and students (presentation of student card at the door required); $15 for non-members. Register online or cash payment at the door.

We couldn’t have found a better occasion to hold a networking event in Longueuil. The Université de Sherbrooke’s Longueuil campus offers a graduate degree in Editing. The evening will be kicked off by Pascal Genêt, program director and supervisor of integration activities who will provide a quick overview of the publishing program. Then on to the roundtable with Marie-Ève Laroche, Jennifer McMorran, Julie-Jeanne Roy and Julie Therrien. The discussion will be focused on the types of mandates (novels, magazines or school texts), editing requirements, team make-up, the kind of feedback provided, and the results expected from editors. The roundtable will be followed by a discussion and networking period to end the evening.

Biographical notes on the panellists:

Marie-Ève Laroche
Curious and passionate about literature and linguistics, she began working in-house for a publisher in 2001, as soon as she had earned her master’s degree. Originally hired as an assistant to the publisher in the field of school texts, Marie-Ève Laroche’s experience rapidly diversified through her work as a proofreader and editor for such clients as the Ministry of Education, Fiducie Desjardins, HEC’s French quality department, then several journals and newspapers. From 2004 to 2013, she was the literary publisher at Guy Saint-Jean Éditeur. She has taught editorial review and manuscript publishing in the publishing program at the Université de Sherbrooke since 2012. To broaden her literary horizons, she recently chose to offer her services as a project manager, literary director and freelance editor for a variety of Quebec publishing houses.

Jennifer McMorran
Jennifer McMorran has worked as an editor for 24 years, starting out copy editing and translating travel guides. She then worked as a freelance editor and writer for eight years before returning to in-house positions, first as a magazine editor and more recently as an editor of ESL teaching materials. She also does occasional freelance work for the financial industry. She has held positions where she was responsible for all levels of editing and production and others where she was part of a large team and each member had very specific responsibilities. In her current position, she spends most of her time doing developmental editing.

Julie-Jeanne Roy
Julie-Jeanne Roy has been practising as an editor for more than 15 years. Over that time, she has worked for a number of magazines and publishing houses. She has been literary manager and editorial assistant at Éditions de la Courte Échelle and La Mèche. She is also a manuscript evaluator, editor and translator.

Julie Therrien
After 15 years as a teacher, Julie returned to university to achieve her dream of becoming an editor. While studying for her professional editing certificate, she had the privilege of a ten-week practicum in a major publishing house. She continues to work with them as a freelance editor and proofreader as well as with two other publishers. Julie is also a professional editor and manuscript evaluator.
