Editors Canada announces the first réviseurs agréés avec attestation en révision comparative

Toronto, July 10, 2017—The Editors' Association of Canada (Editors Canada) is proud to announce the first réviseurs agréés avec attestation en révision comparative in its history! Eight people have passed the attestation en révision comparative test, which is part of the Programme d'agrément en révision linguistique — Réviseurs Canada.

Editors Canada supports the copy editors of The New York Times

On Friday, June 30, 2017, Editors Canada president Anne Louise Mahoney sent the following letter to the News Guild of New York in support of the copy editors at The New York Times, as the paper plans to reduce the 100 positions to 50.

The Editors' Association of Canada (Editors Canada) wishes to express our support for you as The New York Times plans to drastically reduce its copy editing staff.

Editors Canada awards eight professional certifications in 2017

Toronto, June 14, 2017—The Editors' Association of Canada (Editors Canada) is pleased to announce that six editors have earned new professional certifications. This year, Editors Canada recognizes four new certified proofreaders, two new certified structural editors and two new certified professional editors.

First two Karen Virag Award recipients honoured at Editors Canada awards banquet

The Karen Virag Award recognizes exceptional efforts by an individual or organization to raise the profile of editing in their community. These heroes of editing go out of their way to raise the profile of our profession in their communities year after year. They champion what we do and how valuable we are.

The award comes with a $400 cash prize and is named for a highly accomplished member of Editors Canada who died in 2014.

Irina Malakhova awarded the 2016 Claudette Upton Scholarship

Toronto, June 12, 2017—The Editors' Association of Canada (Editors Canada) has announced that Irina Malakhova of Hamilton, Ontario, is the recipient of the 2016 Claudette Upton Scholarship.

The scholarship was presented at the association's annual awards banquet in Ottawa-Gatineau on June 10, 2017. This scholarship is a $1,000 cash award intended to support continuing professional development in editing.

Toronto, June 12, 2017Virginia Durksen of Calgary, Alberta, is the winner of the 2017 Karen Virag Award, which recognizes exceptional efforts by an individual or organization to raise the profile of editing in their community. The award comes with a $400 cash prize and is named for a highly accomplished member of the Editors' Association of Canada (Editors Canada) who died in 2014.

We've been working for years to create tests that are as close to the "real-world" editing experience as possible, while still maintaining that gold standard of excellence our program is known for.
