Conference 2010: Call for Proposals

The Editors' Association of Canada's 2010 national conference (May 28 to 30) will be an exciting opportunity for editors to learn and network, while enjoying the uniquely vibrant and beautiful city of Montreal.

EAC's Conference Committee is calling for session proposals from speakers, workshop leaders and discussion moderators. EAC members and non-members are invited to submit proposals.

Conference Theme and Session Streams

The theme of EAC's 2010 conference is La révision en réflexion : contenu et culture / Reflections: Editing Content and Culture. Conference sessions will be grouped into the following five streams.

Arts and Sciences
Government and Business
Career Building
Techniques and Technology
Language and Cultures

Proposals related to the conference theme and streams are encouraged. Other proposals are also welcome.

EAC members and non-members are invited to submit proposals. If you know someone who is an experienced and interesting presenter, please forward this call for proposals to them.

Your email subject line should begin with "Conference Proposal" followed by your first and last name.

What to Include in Your Proposal

  1. Name, mailing address, telephone and email (for you and for any co-presenters)
  2. Photo (high-res colour head shot to be used on EAC's website and/or conference program)
  3. Short bio (30 to 50 words) for each speaker. In addition to your short bio (but not instead of it) you may also attach a longer bio or CV (as a Word file)
  4. List of your prior presentations at EAC seminars or conferences and/or at other conferences
  5. Suggested stream for your session (Arts and Sciences, Government and Business, Career Building, Techniques and Technology, or Language and Cultures)
  6. Proposed session title and a short description (75 to 100 words). In addition to your short session description (but not instead of it), you may also attach a longer description (as a Word file)
  7. Language of session (English or French); NOTE: If you are bilingual, let us know if you would be interested in doing your session twice, once in French and once in English (optional)
  8. Level of editing expertise suggested for session attendees (beginner / intermediate / advanced / everyone)
  9. Maximum number of participants
  10. Time required for session (1 hour or 1.5 hours)
  11. Preferred day (Saturday, May 29 / Sunday, May 30 / doesn't matter) and preferred time (morning / afternoon / doesn't matter)
  12. Equipment needs (e.g., multimedia projector, screen, flip chart); NOTE: speakers must supply their own laptops
  13. Please indicate if EAC has your permission to use your name, photo and bio on its website and conference promotion materials if your session is selected
  14. Please indicate if EAC has your permission to post your handouts and/or presentation slides on its conference website if your session is selected

Benefits and Expenses

If your proposal is selected, you will receive a discounted conference registration fee as a thank you. Speakers are responsible for all expenses incurred, including their own travel and accommodation costs.

You'll Hear from Us in January

Session proposals will be evaluated by the Conference Committee and conference advisory board. We will let speakers know which proposals have been selected by the end of January 2010.
