Special Event: Byrne Creek Tour

Time: 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. NOTE: Earlier start time!
Place: Byrne Creek, Burnaby (steps away from Edmonds Skytrain Station)
Join streamkeeper Paul Cipywnyk for a unique look at one of Metro Vancouver’s most vibrant suburbs.
On Friday afternoon, Paul will lead a two-hour walking tour of Byrne Creek, which is part of a beautiful ravine park and salmon-spawning habitat located in the Vancouver suburb of Burnaby. This tour is a terrific way to get close to nature on the West Coast. Take a walk along a lush ravine loop trail, learn about Byrne Creek’s salmon-bearing waters, take photos, and relax in nature.
Walkers should dress appropriately for the weather and be prepared for a moderate walk in a nature surrounding.

Special Event: Editors’ Afternoon Tea Party
Presented by EAC and Murchie’s
Date: Friday, May 27
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Place: Murchie’s Tea & Coffee, 825 West Pender Street (a five-minute walk one block south and three and a half blocks west of the conference venue)
Cost: Free Editors’ Blend Tea tasting; pastries as well as one-pound and half-pound Editors’ Blend tea available for purchase
You’re invited to an afternoon tea party!
Join your fellow conference goers for a special tasting of Editors’ Blend Tea, a delectable tea specially prepared for the EAC 2011 Conference by Murchie’s. It’s a robust blend of Ceylon, Keemun and Yunnan gold tips with a delightful golden colour and a smooth, slightly smoky flavour – a perfect pick-me-up during or after those long hours spent working on a manuscript.
The Editors’ Blend Tea tasting is free. Tasty pastries are available for purchase.
You can buy Editors’ Blend Tea at any Murchie’s store or online for $35.60 per pound or $17.80 per half pound of loose tea. It’s the perfect gift for yourself as well as family, friends and fellow editors.

Conference 2011 Welcome Reception

Place: Segal Centre, SFU Vancouver, 515 West Hastings Street (conference venue)
Cost: Included with conference registration; extra tickets available for $25 each through registration page
Strike a pose at the Conference 2011 welcome reception!
You’re invited to attend the red-carpet-themed Conference 2011 welcome reception, hosted by EAC-BC. It promises to be an entertaining, light-hearted way to kick off your conference experience. Come prepared to parade down the red carpet and strike a pose in front of EAC-BC paparazzi! Dress up; dress down; dress as your favourite literary character or celeb. Prizes will be awarded.
The reception will be live-tweeted @eacconference. Don’t forget to bring your mobile device so that you can join in on the social-media fun.
EAC Awards Banquet
Date: Saturday, May 28
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Place: Segal Graduate School of Business, 500 Granville Street (2 blocks west of conference venue)
Menu: Three-courses (salad, main course, dessert) and one glass of wine. Cash bar available.
Dress: Business casual/semi-formal
Cost: $75 per ticket
RSVP: By May 20 through registration page
Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver’s business district, the beautifully restored Segal Graduate School of Business is the venue for this year’s EAC Awards Banquet. The 1912 heritage building features an elegant glass-panelled room on the main level and this is where you and your fellow editors will dine on a delicious three-course meal and mix and mingle for the evening.
Conference co-chairs, Theresa Best and Naomi Pauls will MC the gala event, which honours editors who have made significant contributions over the past year, including the recipients of the Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence, the Claudette Upton Scholarship and the President’s Award.
To cap off the evening, Nancy Foran and James Harbeck will co-present the annual Oops Awards.
