Douglas Gibson became a trainee editor in 1968, and even as the publisher of McClelland & Stewart (1988–2004), he stubbornly continued editing—until he, too, became an author. A giant in Canadian publishing, Gibson’s most recent book, Stories About Storytellers: Publishing Alice Munro, Robertson Davies, Alistair MacLeod, Pierre Trudeau, and Others (October 2011, ECW Press), has been applauded by the very people he writes about: “No one has done more for Canadian literature than this man” (Alistair MacLeod) and “my prize read” (Nobel prize winner Alice Munro). Gibson has taken the book out on the road, performing the text live across the country, and he will be treating conference attendees to some of the highlights of his work. |
