About the conference site
The Crowne Plaza Hotel (2, rue Montcalm) is accessibly located in the heart of old Hull, also called l'Île de Hull because of it is nearly surrounded by water. Hull was founded — before Ottawa — by an American lumberman, Philomen Wright, and the hotel is on the settlement site. Few buildings from those early settlement days still exist, due to a great fire that began in Hull and spread across the river to Ottawa in 1900.
Across from the hotel is Brewery Creek / Ruisseau de Brasserie, which, not surprisingly, has a history associated with brewing beer. Along the creek is a French theatre, le Théâtre de l’Île.
On Alexandre-Taché and Promenade du Portage is the Ottawa River recreational pathway: a lovely place to walk, run or ride a bike on a pleasant day.
