I’m an editor and proofreader specializing in texts for museums and outdoor exhibitions (such as public art and monuments). I edit exhibit panels and labels, interpretive materials and catalogues, as well as museum blogs, newsletters, calendars and school program guides. Current clients include the Canadian Museum of History, the Canadian War Museum, Heritage Canada and the Bank of Canada Museum. I’ve also edited for the National Gallery of Canada and the Inuit Art Foundation. As well as making sure the content is correct and consistent, I can help you simplify your text — following plain language principles as I edit — and make it more accessible to your specific audience. You can also rely on me for thorough proofreading.

My skills include stylistic and copy editing, proofreading, research and fact-checking. I’m happy to provide examples of projects I’ve undertaken. Conscientious and reliable, I have developed a reputation for providing high quality work and having a good rapport with my clients. I’m content to work independently or as part of a team, from my own office or in-house. I am U.K.-educated and have a degree in English from the University of Ottawa.

Here’s what some of my clients have written about me:

“Your edits were great — just the right balance of maintaining the voice while also improving the phrasing.”

Museum’s managing editor, writing about my blog edit

“Thanks [also] to extraordinary editor Jennifer Rae-Brown, who turned my convoluted sentences into readable prose.”

Curator and social historian, in her book’s Acknowledgements

“No other proofreader catches what you do.”
