Editor Profile

John Sweet

Profile

I started copy editing in 1991 at Penguin Books in London, and have been a freelancer since 1993. I work primarily in trade publishing, editing both fiction and non-fiction, but if I have a “specialty,” it would be fiction, and particularly literary fiction. Among books I copy-edited in recent years are Giller Prize winner Washington Black (Esi Edugyan) and Giller nominees All the Colour in the World (C.S. Richardson), Stray Dogs (Rawi Hage), and Son of a Trickster (Eden Robinson); and GG winners Five Little Indians (Michelle Good) and Five Wives (Joan Thomas).

Particular areas of interest: LGBTQ fiction and non-fiction, theatre, trauma memoirs.
