Editor Profile

Malgosia Halliop

Profile

I’m a Toronto-based writer and non-fiction editor with a focus on education and the environment. I love working with people as much as with words, and am an experienced collaborator.

My recent work has focused on writing and editing grade 4–7 language arts resources in the form of three-part lesson plans, teacher support material, and student-facing texts (original stories, speeches, monologues, scripts, and profiles).

I’ve also worked on newsletters, donor magazines, student course handbooks, volunteer training manuals, welcome materials, catalogue copy, media kits, blog posts, website copy, full-length academic manuscripts, academic journal articles, and memoirs.

My past experience includes stints in academic publishing, university communications, and environmental and nature education.

My own creative writing includes poetry published in literary magazines such as Prairie Fire, Event, Parentheses Journal, and About Place Journal.

What can I do for you? Write content, conduct interviews, compile and unify content from multiple sources, revise and restructure complex documents, work at the line level to make writing clearer and more enjoyable to read, copyedit for consistency and correctness in grammar and punctuation, and check final proofs or layout for pre-publication quality control.

Testimonials

“The person who referred me to Małgosia said ‘copy editors are magicians!’ I must agree. Malgosia spread magic fairy dust over my work and made it tighter, stronger, and more alive.

I am a new writer, and the editing process has been wonderful but often anxiety-inducing. I engaged Małgosia as a line and copy editor and when she returned my work, I felt the familiar stirrings of anxiety. However, diving in this time was different.

Working through Małgosia’s edits was uplifting, educational and joyful. Her attention to the smallest details was exactly what I was hoping for.” Marsha Jacobson, memorist, children’s book author, blogger

“Thanks a bunch! I’m starting to understand how to write better because of all your edits. In fact, doing these blog posts every week has been the part I’ve enjoyed most about this project.” Alan Li, nature artist and educator

The magazine has dropped today, and I just wanted to send a mighty big thank you your way! It’s another amazing edition, and your edits were great and really expedited the process. I really appreciate it, and hope to be able to work with you again in the future!” Stephanie Hulse, Greenpeace Canada
