I’m an experienced writer and editor with a focus on non-profit organizations and purpose-driven businesses, particularly in environmental fields (advocacy, communication, education).
What can I do for you? Write content, conduct interviews, compile and unify content from multiple sources, revise and restructure complex documents, work at the line level to make writing clearer and more enjoyable to read, copyedit for consistency and correctness in grammar and punctuation, and check final proofs or layout for pre-publication quality control.
Materials I've worked on include newsletters, donor magazines, student course handbooks, volunteer training manuals, catalogue copy, press releases, website copy, blog posts, interviews, online student resources, academic journal articles, and full-length memoir.
My writing and editing experience includes stints in academic publishing, university communications, and environmental and nature education. I've also trained and worked as a nature educator with several organizations in Ontario.
I love working with people as much as with words, and am an experienced collaborator.
Environment, environmental advocacy, ecology, conservation, biodiversity, climate change, renewable energy, permaculture, food justice, active transportation, urban nature, sustainable cities, wildlife tracking and awareness, outdoor education, adult learning, alternative education, traditional ecological knowledge, transformative education, the intersection of planetary health and human health.
I hold a BA from the University of Toronto, an MA in English from Western University, an MEd in Adult Education and Community Development from OISE/UT, and a Certificate in Publishing from the university formerly known as Ryerson. I was awarded the Eve Orpen Memorial Award for general academic excellence in the publishing program. I have also completed field-based apprenticeship programs in wildlife tracking and plant and ecological knowledge, and am certified as a Level III wildlife tracker through CyberTracker North America.
"Thanks a bunch! I'm starting to understand how to write better because of all your edits. In fact, doing these blog posts every week has been the part I've enjoyed most about this project." Alan Li, Nature Artist and Educator, League of Urban Nature Artists (LUNA) Toronto
"The magazine has dropped today, and I just wanted to send a mighty big thank you your way! It's another amazing edition, and your edits were great and really expedited the process. I really appreciate it, and hope to be able to work with you again in the future!" Stephanie Hulse, Annual Giving Manager, Greenpeace Canada
